Jan. - IT Project

January 2008

What if you could test-drive a missions experience through Muslim, Buddhist, Chinese, Tribal and Hindu cultures…all in one summer? That was the design behind the Intensive Training (I.T.) Summer Project that The Traveling Team has hosted for the last eight years. I’m convinced that how students spend their summers will drastically affect who they become in life and what they do for the kingdom. The summer is not the only time to get training but it may be the best time. Proverbs 10:5 says, “He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully”. I can tell the difference between students who have used their summers to get training in discipleship and missions verses those that have hoarded their time to themselves. There is wisdom in using your time off during college to get strategic training for a lifetime of ministry, whether in the U.S. or overseas. People who are making a huge difference in the world and laboring for Jesus Christ did not get that way by accident. They put in time to get the foundational training that they needed. We all need training.

Just think about all the time in training that the New Testament describes for us. Jesus spent thrity years preparing for His three year ministry. The disciples walked with Jesus in the flesh for three years. Barnabus spent several years with Peter; Paul spent over ten years with Barnabus and then trained Timothy for many years. This is the model that Scripture seems to give us: that we all have a ministry and we all need training.

Paul compares our Christian life to training for a race. He writes, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified” (1 Cor 9:24-27).

The Intensive Training summer project is designed for you to spend seven weeks focusing on expanding your heart for the entire world as you walk through challenging missions material that will grow your perspective.

You will spend your days learning about missions, mobilization and methodology. Evenings will be a time of practical hands-on application and study time. Project weekends will be spent getting up close and personal with some of the world's major religions.

Along with those things, you will meet other students from all over the country who share in your vision and passion for the world. This could be your chance to engage in a summer of fast-paced, in-your-face missions training…it could be the summer that changes your life!
