Sept - Ramadan
"The first thing my husband said to me after returning from the Emirates was "My dear wife." It amazed me, since he had been treating me badly-like a possession he owned-for a long time.
The week he was home was strange. His behavior had changed so much, I couldn't believe it. It was like being on a honeymoon again. He would only say nice things to me; in the morning he would go to the kitchen to make coffee and breakfast. He had never entered a kitchen before, because it's a "shame" in our country for a man to enter the kitchen. He even served his relatives when they visited, and had me sit with them. When we told him that his life had changed he replied: "why shouldn't God change me?" His new behavior even made me scared and worried: maybe he had taken a second wife, and now was being nice to me to cover his guilt.
My husband gave me a Bible and other Christian literature and cassettes when he left. He encouraged me to discover Jesus. The drastic change in my husband's life created in me a deep desire to read the bible. At the end of Ramadan I was still praying and fasting the Muslim way; then I started to have dreams.
In the last dream I had, I saw Jesus on the sea, standing on the water. He was calling me: "Come to me!" I answered, "I don't know how to swim." He told me: "Do not be afraid. Those I am calling to come will never drown." Slowly I started walking towards Him. I was walking on the water, but not sinking. I continued to walk until I arrived where He was standing.
My husband and I were very excited about these dreams. We were comforted by them, and so I surrendered my life to the Lord Jesus. Praise be to His name for showing me the path of Life."
A Testimony From Yemen
Starting on the 1st of September, Muslims all across the world will go without food throughout their days for an entire month. This is not some far fetched prophecy of a great famine of judgment. God isn't imposing this curse upon them. Instead it is a 30 day fast done by their own volition. Can you imagine .2 Billion Muslims around the world giving up what the world considers one of five basic needs in order to seek the face of Allah, the Arabic name for God? What a display of reverence and devotion! It causes us to wonder why the Christians around the world do not unite in common prayer and fasting!but we'll save that question for another time.
September first marks the beginning of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month. During this time, devout Muslims throughout the world will not eat or drink anything while the sun is in the air. Now, not all Muslims follow all of the strictest requirements, but all will give up something. Consider the desert climates found in much of the Muslim world. Would you go all day without water in 0 degree heat for 30 days? If you were devout and hopeful of hearing from Allah, you would.
So, why am I telling you all of this? Because this month, more than any month in the life of Muslims, their hearts are bent on seeking for truth. They fast and seek Allah to reveal His will to them. What if there were millions of Christians around the world praying fervently during this time that, indeed, God would reveal Himself to them-that God would shine light into their veiled hearts and show them that Jesus is the Savior of the world, that He did die on a cross and rose from the dead, and that He is coming again to judge the living and the dead, including every Muslim who rejects Him as Savior and Lord. Would you consider giving yourself these thirty days from September 1st through September 30th to asking God to seek and save the lost Muslims of the world? Here are a few ideas of how to do this:
1. Organize a prayer meeting with some friends and pray for the nations of the world that are Muslim governed.
2. The 27th night of Ramadan is called the "Night of Power." On this night, Muslims believe that Allah is more willing to speak to those that are seeking Him than on any other night. You could arrange an all night prayer vigil and plead for God's revelation of Christ.
3. Many Muslims are coming to faith in Christ through dreams and visions. They have reported being visited by angels and Isa (their name for Jesus). God has moved in miraculous ways. Pray that God would work in many powerful ways during this month.
