Traveler’s DAY-TO-DAY OVERVIEW
A DAY ON THE ROAD – A typical day will include driving, time with God, pairing phone calls with students, meeting campus ministers, or catching up on development reading in the daytime. In the evening, meeting the campus ministry staff for dinner and time at their weekly meeting. After the meeting ends, you will go to a host home where you will spend the night and get ready to start again the next day.
TEAM MEETING – You can expect to meet weekly with the team for book discussion, prayer, and reviewing the week ahead.
LARGE GROUP MEETINGS – You will be given roles to participate in during the large group meetings. During that time, you need to be “on the clock,” cell phone off, focused and engaged. From the dinner to the pillow, you are “on.”
PART TWO – After the main meeting you will meet with students to help them gain a heart for the world. You will share the World Vision Illustration and collect their contact information.
PAIRING – After meeting with students, you are expected to follow up with them through a text and a phone call with the goal of pairing them with one of our partnering mission agencies based on their individual needs, timeframe, skills, and interests.
TEAM RESPONSIBILITY – There will be a person responsible for the book table, van care, hospitality, scheduling, etc. You can expect to be trained in these areas but are also expected to use your resourcefulness and initiative to problem solve and get the job done for your team without supervision.
TEAMS – We do our best to pair up teams that complement each other and have both guys and girls to meet student needs on the road. Teams often switch and rotate staff between each school year.
WORK HOURS – You will put in up to 60hrs of work each week on the road and 20hrs a week off-road. During the semesters, you will have 40-60 meetings in an eleven-week period during which you are on the road full-time. “Not all time in life is equal. TAKE TIME OFF DURING THE WEEK - The team leader should make sure that during the week there are down days for rest and relaxation, fun, and extended time with the Lord.
FOLLOW-UP - We value follow-up with students. There is a tremendous fallout rate between the time of initial exposure to a developed World Christian lifestyle. We value walking the students through this process and eliminating over-choice in order to get them started. “Let us return and visit the brothers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord and see how they are” (Acts 15:36).
ZERO USE OF ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO - We hold that these are not sin, and at the same time have a conservative policy of total abstinence while on the road for the sake of others. Therefore, travelers should refrain from any alcoholic beverages and the use of tobacco in all forms. *If you wish to live cross-culturally this is great practice in giving up biblical freedoms (1 Cor. 10:23-33).
