I was struggling through my senior year of college trying to figure out what God's will for my life could be. Every time I spent time in the Word, all these Bible verses about the nations and God's command to go out into the world kept surfacing. I was convinced that God couldn't possibly be calling me to "missions", but I couldn't get the idea out off my mind.
My friend suggested that I attend the Traveling Team Summer Project in California. I reluctantly went hoping that God would show me that I wasn't cut out for mission work. However, God quickly changed my heart through the Perspectives class. The class completely rocked my world and view of Christianity as it clearly showed me the underlying theme of the Bible--that God's heart is for the world and that He invites us to be apart of it. I realized that I was asking the wrong questions--instead of asking what God's will for my life is, I need to simply ask, "What is God's will?" God revealed to me that His will is for all nations, tribes and tongues to know the love, grace and forgiveness offered through Jesus Christ.
Since then, my life has radically changed. I would now call myself a "World Christian"--a believer that understands the call of Christ to believe, think, plan, and act according to God's heart for the world. My life directions have been transformed by a world vision and I pray earnestly for God to use me in spreading His Kingdom to all the earth.
Upon returning home, I began teaching high school. Even though God had me in the secular world, it did not mean that I couldn't be a World Christian. I started a Christian group at school for students and encouraged them to look at God's Word differently. We sent care packages to missionaries over Christmas and started praying for the world. I also got involved in running a Perspectives class in Chicago. My husband and I now co-coordinate a Perspectives class and we pray that a movement gets started in the Chicagoland area. It is our hope that we can be overseas one day, but we know that no matter where we are we can play an intricate role in God's global plan.
